One of Birmingham City’s competitors for promotion moved quickly to complete their first summer signing.

Jonson Clarke-Harris has been signed just days after Peterborough United confirmed that he will be released at the conclusion of his contract this summer.

Rotherham United have made Clarke-Harris their first acquisition of the summer under new manager Steve Evans. The Millers, who were relegated from the Championship with Birmingham City at the end of last season, have re-signed Clarke-Harris for a two-year contract.

Clarke-Harris became Rotherham United’s record signing in 2014, during Evans’ first season as manager at the New York Stadium. Evans moved fast to sign a striker who had 67 goals in 128 League One games for Peterborough.

Speaking about the move, Clarke-Harris said: “I met with the boss lately, and he stated that he wants to bring me to the club. The employer knows what I think of him; I’ve spoken with him several times since I left here when I was younger.

“We have always stayed in touch. It’s an incredible delight to return to the Millers and play for him again. Hopefully, I can continue what I started.”

Rotherham have gained promotion to the Championship in their last four League One campaigns. The Blues are favourites to win the title, but the Millers and Huddersfield Town, the other team demoted from the Championship, are likely to compete for an immediate return.
