Birmingham City to benefit from £935m deal despite relegation to League One

Sky Sports’ new arrangement with the EFL will include at least 20 live Birmingham City matches next season.

The £935 million deal was signed in April, and Sky Sports will broadcast more than 1,000 EFL games next season. The Blues’ relegation to League One will have little impact on viewership, as the broadcaster has agreed to show at least 20 matches throughout the 2024/25 season.

Sky’s current TV contract with the EFL does not include any televised matches for League One and Two clubs. Sky Sports+ will broadcast selected Carabao Cup matches as well as all EFL Trophy ties, which the Blues will compete in for the first time since 1995.

Every match outside of the typical 3 p.m. Saturday blackout will be broadcast live, with a minimum of two televised games per weekend in League One. Sky Sports will broadcast every fixture on the season’s opening and closing weekends.

The League One season is expected to begin on Friday, August 9, with a live fixture at 8 p.m. Blues will learn their fixture list for the 2019 season at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, June 26.

Sky has committed to give fans greater notice when deciding which games to broadcast live beginning this season. At the conclusion of the season, when decisions are more difficult to make, Sky will strive to give fans at least four weeks’ notice.
