Enrique Cerezo has replied to Cristiano Ronaldo’s reported interest in joining Atletico Madrid.

Enrique Cerezo has replied to Cristiano Ronaldo’s reported interest in joining Atletico Madrid.

Enrique Cerezo, president of Atletico Madrid, has stated that a move for Cristiano Ronaldo is “practically impossible” for the Spanish club.

Ronaldo has been linked with a move away from Manchester United after only one season, and is said to want to play in the Champions League. The Portugal international missed United’s pre-season trip of Australia and Thailand due to family obligations, but has returned for pre-season meetings.

Erik ten Hag has often stated that the veteran is an important component of his plans as he attempts to guide the English side back into the top four. And, despite supposedly informing the club of his wish to depart, no move has been made.

Cristiano Ronaldo exits Manchester United’s HQ via the rear exit, stating his stance on the impending showdown discussions.

“I’m not sure who fabricated the [Ronaldo] tale, but it’s nearly impossible for him to come to Atlético de Madrid,” Cerezo told El Partidazo de COPE. The comments came after a number of other clubs effectively ruled themselves out of contention.

“I admire Cristiano Ronaldo, his achievements, and his career,” Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic told SPORT1. “However, that was and is not a topic for us.”

Chelsea thought to be the most likely Premier League bidders, but they appear to have passed, as do French giants Paris Saint-Germain. Meanwhile, Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim has dismissed the possibility of Ronaldo returning to his former club.

“Does Ronaldo have a chance?” “I’ve already heard that, I don’t read anything, and I don’t see anything,” Amorim was reported by Record as adding. “The reality for me is different; it’s keeping my guys.”

“I’m glad Matheus Nunes is still here. I’m glad that Sporting players, such as Matheus Nunes, turn down lucrative offers to stay with the club. This is my reality; I am quite pleased with my team, and my players are among the greatest in the world.”

Atletico Madrid’s interest in Ronaldo comes after the club lost another experienced striker this summer. Luis Suarez has left Liverpool when his contract expired, having helped Diego Simeone’s team win La Liga in 2021.

Despite Ronaldo leading the scoring last season with 24 goals, Manchester United missed out on Champions League football by a wide margin. Ten Hag has joined from Ajax and will try to guide the team back into the top four, having already strengthened his squad.

Malacia has arrived from Feyenoord, while Eriksen has joined after his short-term contract at Brentford expired and a deal for Martinez has been revealed. It remains to be seen, though, whether the new manager has done enough to persuade Ronaldo that his future rests in Manchester.
