A little history on the Cowboys and wide point spreads:
– Dallas was favored by 17.5 points against the Houston Texans in Week 14 of the 2022 season, the last time a team was favored by 16 or more points. The Cowboys won 27–23, however they failed to score.
– Dallas was favored by 12 against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3 of this season, but they were defeated, 28-16.
This season, three other teams have had a 12.5-point or greater advantage, and all of them have covered. The Cleveland Browns(-13) defeated the Cardinals 27-0 on November 5, the 49ers(-14.5) defeated the Cardinals 35-16 on October 1, and the Kansas City Chiefs(-12.5) defeated the Chicago Bears 41-10 on September 24.
– Dallas easily won 40-0 despite being just a 3.5-point favorite in their season opener against New York on September 10. The Cowboys recorded the biggest victory margin in the rivalry since 1960 (Dallas leads 74-47-2) despite sacking Giants quarterback Daniel Jones seven times.
Dallas has won five in a row over New York (winning by an average of 18.8 points) and 12 of the past 13, dating back to 2017.
Jones tore his right knee’s ACL on Sunday, forcing him to miss the entire season. With backup quarterback Troy Taylor sidelined due to a rib cage injury, the Giants will either veteran Matt Barkley or undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito at quarterback.
Ralpph Vacchiano of NFC East reports that the Giants’ chances of winning the rest of the season are slim.
They seem certain to place in the first two or three [draft picks] now that Jones is out for the season, according to Vacchiano. “They might not win another game.”
Are you taking the Giants and the point spread, or do you think the Cowboys can cover such a wide spread?
