The 2025 Texas football recruiting class continues to improve, as the country’s current No. 1 team signed another key prospect on Thursday. The announcement occurred two days before the Longhorns’ 2024 Red River Rivalry game against the No. 19-ranked Oklahoma Sooners.
As reported on Oct. 10, four-star receiver Daylan McCutcheon re-committed to Texas after being considered a Florida State prospect. McCutcheon, a native of Lovejoy, Texas, had committed to the Seminoles since July 13 before deciding to stay in his home state.

As of October, McCutcheon was ranked as the 221st top prospect in the 2025 recruiting class and the 26th best receiver. He becomes Texas’ third-highest-rated recruit at the position, trailing only Kaliq Lockett and Jaime Ffrench, who are ranked second and fourth top receivers in the class, respectively.
McCutcheon’s commitment will only help Texas’ 2025 recruiting class, which is already ranked sixth best in the nation. Steve Sarkisian’s new group is led by five-star safety Jonah Williams, the class’s top prospect and the No. 7 overall.
The move hurts Mike Norvell and Florida State, which has the 37th-best recruiting class in 2025. McCutcheon was Norvell’s sixth-best incoming prospect in a group of only five current top-300 names.
Texas prepares for Red River rivalry clash with Oklahom
While McCutcheon unofficially became a Longhorn while the team was ranked first in the country, there is no better moment for him to become a fan than before the team’s Week 7 rivalry game against Oklahoma. The 120th edition of the long-running rivalry will take place on October 12 at Cotton Bowl Stadium, with clear playoff implications on the line.
Texas’ season has been virtually flawless through five games, despite quarterback Quinn Ewers missing two games due to injury, but the same cannot be said for Oklahoma. Despite having a respectable 4-1 record, the Sooners needed a few lucky breaks to beat both Auburn and Houston and avoid devastating defeats.
Ewers, who has not played since being injured on September 14, is likely to return for the rivalry game after missing the previous two. In his absence, college football fans eventually saw Arch Manning make his long-awaited debut, after impressing in his first two career starts against weaker competition.
If the Longhorns remain unbeaten, it will be their second victory against a ranked opponent in 2024, after defeating Michigan in Week 2. If Oklahoma wins, it will be their second consecutive series victory and first over a ranked opponent in 2024.
