The NFL’s DUI problem has gotten a new date. The Scottsdale Police Department may have to cancel any planned Longest Yard-themed activities at the local jail. Eddie Lacy, a former Alabama Crimson Tide running back, was detained for “extreme DUI” in Arizona after officers allegedly witnessed many traffic offences being committed.
Lacy, a former NFL player for the Seattle Seahawks and Green Bay Packers, was arrested just before midnight, according to TMZ Sports. Extreme Drive A Scottsdale Police Department press officer told The Arizona Republic that Under the Influence charges are filed when a suspect’s blood alcohol content level exceeds.20.
“Officers located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop due to traffic violations that were observed by the officers,” as reported by the department.
According to reports from TMZ and The Arizona Republic, the 34-year-old had an open container in the vehicle. Scottsdale police were on the scene reacting to allegations of an erratic driver matching Lacy’s car description. Lacy was eventually pulled over after committing many driving offences.
Lacy was charged with four different charges of driving under the influence. The charging documents include DUI to the least degree, DUI with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or more, extreme DUI with a BAC of 0.15 or more, and extreme DUI with a BAC of 0.20 or more. TMZ alleges that the three-time BCS champion under Nick Saban was released from custody early on October 1, 2024, after making a bond.
NFL dealing with a rash of DUI arrests
Lacy’s incident is only one of several disturbing headlines for the NFL. In addition to Uber and Lyft, league players can use private automobiles and driver programs. Jordan Addison, a Minnesota Vikings wide receiver, was arrested for suspicion of DUI in Los Angeles this summer. Addison was sleeping at the wheel.
Addison’s incident occurred just weeks after Vikings rookie Khyree Jackson was killed in an accident. The Las Vegas Raiders had a few players that failed to learn from Henry Ruggs’ intoxicated driving through a suburb. Marcus Maye (New Orleans Saints) was suspended three games last season due to a DUI plea deal.
Rashee Rice was also engaged in a hit-and-run incident this offseason, although no alcohol-related charges are pending.

Rice might have gone away once and learnt his lesson. The NFL must act up because these criminal breaches involving vehicles are not unique cases.
