Roderick wins quartet of awards for 2024 season

The Worcestershire keeper-batter Gareth Roderick won four prizes during the club’s Gala prizes Evening held in the Chestnut Marquee, capping off a fantastic season.

In addition to winning the Dick Lygon Award for his achievements both on and off the field, the Supporters’ Association Player of the Year, the Cricket Society Moment of the Season Award, and the Graveney Players’ Player Award, the opener also received recognition.

In the Vitality County Championship cricket, Roderick and Jake Libby have established a strong opening partnership. In the Metro Bank One Day Cup, Roderick has amassed two hundreds, four fifties, and more than 400 runs.

He finished behind the stumps with the highest number of dismissals in the One Day Cup (23), second only to Surrey’s Ben Foakes in the County Championship (more than 40 scalps).

In addition, he has participated in every competitive game, including nine One Day Cup, fourteen Championship, and fourteen Vitality Blast matches.

Libby complimented his opening partner on her accomplishments.

“He has done an excellent job all year, but keeping and opening the batting is very tough,” he remarked.

“Gareth demonstrated he could play in the Twenty20, scored steadily in all formats, and had an excellent One Day Cup.”

“I get along well with Rodders. We have always known what a great player he was, so I’m incredibly happy for him to have had this success over the last few years.

Ethan Brookes enjoyed a successful first season after his move from Warwickshire and was voted T20 Player Of The Year.

He finished as the Rapids’ top scorer with 315 runs and also played an increasing role with the ball.

Clare Boycott won the Women’s Rapids Player Of The Year Award For the third running.

She captained the side for the majority of the season in theabsence of Chloe Hill and played a key role in the Rapids finishing in the top three of the ECB T20 and 50 over competitions.

Boycott made her senior debut for Worcestershire in 2008 and has banked up more than 200 games for the county.

“Congratulations on winning the Player of the Year award again, Claire. You have been a consistent performer for Worcestershire for many, many years,” Chloe Hill remarked.

After taking 18 wickets in the two formats, spinner Phoebe Brett won the Young Player award for the second year in a row.

The Kenyon Award went to Matthew Waite after his spectacular assault against Birmingham Bears in the Vitality Blast.

Waite hit 34 off the final over of the Rapids innings, including five sixes, from George Garton.

It followed on from him returning the best ever Blast figures by a Rapids bowler – 5-21 – against Leicestershire the previous evening.

Seth Essenhigh, a keeper-batter, was named the Damien D’Oliveira Academy Player of the Year.

After being called up for the Tri-Series at Loughborough, he scored two hundreds for the Academy, came within two runs of his maiden Seconds hundred against Middlesex, and scored his maiden half century for England Under-19s against Scotland.

Tom Taylor was chosen as the Fans Forum Fielder of the Year after having a fantastic second half of the season in all formats, both with the bat and the ball.

After eight years of excellent service, Head of Finance Sarah Gluyas accepted the David Exall Award.

Everyone at the club wishes Sarah the best of luck in her future endeavors as she steps down from her position.
