Despite Malik Willis led the Green Bay Packers to consecutive victory, there is no quarterback controversy. According to ESPN’s Dan Graziano, Willis is likely to be benched shortly as Jordan Love recovers from an MCL strain suffered in Week 1. Graziano clarified: “Technically, it’s the Packers’ Malik Willis, since Jordan Love sounds like he’s close to coming back.” The Packers were pleasantly delighted by Willis’ performance in Love’s absence.
The Packers acquired Malik Willis on August 26, after a preseason marred by errors from their backup quarterbacks. Willis, a Liberty standout, made his first start for the Packers on September 15, guiding them to victories over the Indianapolis Colts and his previous team, the Tennessee Titans. Willis has completed 25 of 34 passes for 324 yards and two touchdowns, in addition to rushing 12 times for 114 yards and one touchdown.
Although Jordan Love, who sprained his MCL in Week 1, was not placed on injured reserve, the Packers expect him to return shortly. Head coach Matt LaFleur stated that Love will be limited in practice on Wednesday. As Green Bay prepares for a Week 4 home game against their NFC North foe, the Minnesota Vikings, Willis may be benched in favour of Love.
