According to Football Insider, Peterborough United and Stockport County will compete for the signing of Taelor O’Kane from AFC Fylde.
Peterborough United and Stockport County will both compete in League One football next season.
Posh finished fourth in League One last season, but were defeated by Oxford United in the play-off semi-finals, with the U’s ultimately winning promotion.
Stockport County are preparing to begin their first year back in the third tier after a successful performance the previous season.
They won the fourth tier and received a comfortable automatic promotion, but their current focus is on surviving in the league above.
O’Kane, 18, played 19 National League games for AFC Fylde last season. He scored four goals for the fifth-tier club and played an extra game in the FA Cup.
His outstanding performances have sparked Football League interest, with League One duo Peterborough United and Stockport County asking about his availability this summer.
One for the future
At 18, O’Kane has a lot of promise, and the early signals indicate that he will be a very strong player in the future.
The centre midfielder can chip in with goals, which is always a plus from the middle of the park, and it appears only a matter of time until he gets a shot in the Football League.
AFC Fylde finished 18th last season, and it will be difficult for them to retain O’Kane given the interest from above.
Looking ahead
The 18-year-old is in the final year of his contract with AFC Fylde, therefore this summer may be the best moment for him to be sold.
It will provide the National League team the opportunity to recuperate some of his transfer fee and reinvest it in the squad.
Peterborough United will be seeking to finish in the top six this season, while David Challinor’s Stockport County will be looking to establish themselves in League One before moving further.
It will be interesting to see how this transaction unfolds and whether either party is successful in their pursuit of the excellent prospect this year.
