Birmingham City target £500,000 deal for Barnsley star amid Championship interest

Birmingham City are interested in signing Barnsley’s midfielder Styles this summer, according to Alan Nixon.
Birmingham City are hoping for a quick return to the Championship this season.
The Blues were relegated on the final day of last season, following a humiliating fall from top six contention to relegation in the span of a single season.
Styles, 24, played some of last season on loan in the Championship. He began the season with Barnsley and appeared in 20 League One games, scoring three goals and assisting two.

Styles joined Sunderland in January on a short-term loan with the option to buy. He appeared in 12 second-tier games and assisted once during his tenure in the northeast.

Sunderland chose not to exercise the buy clause, and he is presently in the final year of his contract at Oakwell.

Birmingham City are planning an ambitious move for the dynamic midfielder. Nixon reports that a fee of roughly £500,000 would be sufficient to sign him this summer, but there is also competition from the Championship.

A solid option

The 24-year-old would bring skill and depth to multiple areas. He can play anywhere in the midfield, including wing back.
The Oldham-born Hungarian international recently spent the summer in Germany with Hungary for the Euros.
His career totals include 58 League One outings and 136 Championship appearances.

Now that he is in the final year of his Barnsley contract, they may try to move him on, and Birmingham City should have no problem matching the asking amount if their interest in Styles is genuine.

Building the foundations

Birmingham City must ensure that they battle for promotion this year in a sustainable manner for the club’s future.

level One is not an easy level to break out of, and many clubs have fallen into the third tier throughout the years.

They will be one of the favourites to return to the second division, and with good reason. However, nothing is assured at this level, and it is still early in the year.
