Bolton Wanderers manager Steven Schumacher has stated that Kion Etete could be out for ‘four to five’ weeks.
Bolton Wanderers’ striker has sustained a thigh injury. BWFC signed him on loan from Cardiff City in January.
Etete, 23, was allowed permission to join the Trotters on a temporary basis this winter to get game experience. He has since appeared once for the League One team.
According to The Bolton News, Schumacher’s newest update on his condition is as follows: “It is horrible news; he’ll be gone for four to five weeks. The scan revealed that he has a tear in his thigh. It’s frustrating for him because he was at a new club and wanted to show what he could do, but we expect to have him back by the international break.
“It’s a grade two tear, so Matt (Barrass) expects to be out of action for four weeks, but it’s not a season-ending injury.” We never expected him to be placed straight into the team because he hadn’t played much football.”
Bolton Wanderers injury blow
Bolton Wanderers signed Etete to strengthen their attacking ranks and add competition and depth to their squad.
He didn’t appear for Cardiff City during the first half of the season.
Etete first appeared at Cardiff City Stadium in 2022 and has since scored eight goals in 58 outings for the Welsh club.
He is out of contract at the end of the season, and the Bluebirds must make a huge decision about whether to keep him.
The forward progressed through the ranks at Notts County before joining Tottenham Hotspur in 2019.
He was on the Premier League club’s books for three years but never made it into the first team.
Instead, he was farmed out to Football League clubs Northampton Town and Cheltenham Town to get playing experience.
According to Darren Witcoop on X, Charlton Athletic and Huddersfield Town were interested in him before Bolton Wanderers approached him.
What now for Bolton Wanderers?
Bolton Wanderers will hope that Etete can return to full fitness as soon as possible.
The Trotters are aiming for the play-offs and defeated Crawley Town 4-3 at home in their last league match before losing to Wrexham in the Vertu Trophy.
