A Norwegian midfielder, joined Hearts from SK Brann today, marking their fourth new acquisition of the January transfer window. He joins Belgian attacker Elton Kabangu, Scottish defender Jamie McCart, and Austrian centre-back Michael Steinwender as new faces in Riccarton.
Sander Kartum signed a two-and-a-half-year contract after Hearts reached an agreement with Brann worth £320,000. He is a left-footed central midfielder who can also play out wide or in the No. 10 position. At 29, he brings a wealth of experience to the Tynecastle midfield and is the latest addition identified through Hearts’ association with football data firm Jamestown Analytics.
Head coach Neil Critchley expressed his excitement over the new acquisition on the club’s official website. “It’s been a really positive transfer window so far and I’m delighted to welcome Sander to the club,” according to Critchley. “Brann comes off a good season and will bring a wealth of high-level expertise to the Scottish Premiership.
“Sander is a technically gifted player who can bring the team together in the middle of the pitch while also providing an attacking threat in the final third. He will provide much-needed balance to our team, and we look forward to seeing him play in maroon.
With four new signings, Hearts are still looking for at least one more before the transfer window ends at 11 p.m. on February 3. Management wants a quick winger who can create and score goals, and they have spoken with Kazakhstani club Tobol Kostanay about their international winger, Islam Chesnokov. Talks are underway, but no agreement has yet been reached.
Hearts are also looking for other wide players to enhance their position. If possible, they will strive to add another fresh recruit before the winter window ends.
