The Chicago Bulls have remained below.500 since the eighth game of the season, failing to get back on track as they float towards the basement of the Eastern Conference playoff standings. The Bulls are currently ranked tenth in the East, three games behind ninth and two games ahead of eleventh.
Chicago remains in an odd position, refusing to go all-in on a rebuild while being far from competitive. With the February trade deadline swiftly approaching, the Bulls must determine what to do with their future.
CHSN’s K.C. Johnson predicts what the Bulls will do at the deadline based on what he has heard within the organisation.
“Everything I’m hearing around the league remains that the Bulls are going to be sellers at the deadline,” Mr. Johnson said. “I know one thing for certain: this franchise is tired of being stuck in the middle. Exactly where they are at this point in the season. They realise the depth of this first-round pick in 2025 and would wish to keep it. As a result, you keep hearing that Zach LaVine and Nikola Vucevic are available.”
Chicago traded their 2025 first-round pick to the San Antonio Spurs, but the coveted pick is top-10 protected. If the Bulls continue to struggle and miss the playoffs, there is a significant chance they will keep their selection and add a top-ten player to their squad.
Star guard Zach LaVine has been the subject of trade rumours since last season, and now that the 29-year-old is performing like an All-Star, several teams will surely enquire about his availability.
Johnson’s assessment provides promise for the Bulls’ much-needed rebuilding period, as they need to capitalise on their young talent rather than rely on their ageing players.
