Wrexham’s January Moves: Departures Signal Potential Striker Arrival

Wrexham squandered a wonderful opportunity to go top of League One with another poor away performance.
After a 12-day layoff, Wrexham needed to perform well away at rivals Shrewsbury Town.

Instead, we witnessed another dismal Wrexham away performance, as the struggling Shrews

Parkinson had great firepower on his bench, having picked three strikers as substitutes: Paul Mullin, Modou Faal, and Jack Marriott.

Despite all of them being on the pitch together at the end of the game, none of them were able to save Wrexham from a painful 2-1 defeat.

Burton Albion boss on Jon Dadi Bodvarsson

Wrexham announced a resignation from Parkinson’s squad shortly before kick-off at Croud Meadow.

Wrexham fans will have observed that Parkinson named three strikers on the bench but did not include Jon Dadi Bodvarsson.
The Icelandic forward signed for Wrexham on a free transfer in October after being released by Bolton Wanderers last summer.

Parkinson admitted his Bolton links helped him acquire Bodvarsson, whom Wrexham signed on a contract until January.

The exact date Bodvarsson’s contract expired was unknown, but the writing was on the wall after only 91 League One minutes and four substitute appearances.

Wrexham have already parted ways with Bodvarsson, allowing him to join League One rivals Burton Albion.
Bodvarsson has signed a’short-term deal’ with the Brewers and will immediately join their squad for the match against Crawley Town this weekend.

Burton manager Gary Bowyer has informed the club’s official website that he is ‘delighted’ to have signed a player of Bodvarsson’s calibre.

Bowyer feels Bodvarsson will be ‘useful’ at the Pirelli Stadium, implying that he has scored a major coup.

“I’m very thrilled. To have attracted someone with his experience and quality is a true honour to everyone. “We can’t wait for him to get started because he’s going to be such an important player for us,” Bowyer said.

Wrexham fans may see hint in Bodvarsson exit

Bodvarsson’s departure at this stage of the transfer window may lead Wrexham fans to believe that another striker is on his way in.

According to sources, Wrexham wants to sign another striker and hopes to accomplish so during this transfer window.

Sheffield Wednesday’s Michael Smith is a target for Wrexham, although it’s unclear whether the transfer can be completed fast.

Bodvarsson’s departure may indicate that Wrexham are optimistic that another spectacular addition will arrive soon.

That will be the hope, given Wrexham’s lack of attacking spark against Shrewsbury on Thursday night.
