Swansea City are mulling a player swap to get Wycombe Wanderers to approve an exit for top target .
The centre-back, Joe Low is at the top of Swansea’s January wishlist and has already received two bids in recent weeks. However, the Swans have yet to achieve a breakthrough in negotiations.
The Chairboys are convinced that the 22-year-old is not for sale during this window, and they are standing hard in their bid to keep what they regard to be their star player.
Swansea aren’t yet ready to walk away, and sources say chairman Andy Coleman, who has assumed the lead on negotiations this winter, may consider throwing a player into the deal to grease the cogs and get the transaction done.
Plymouth Argyle and Preston North End are among the other clubs keeping an eye on the situation, although Swansea still appear to be the frontrunners in the race to sign him.
It is known that a transfer to the Championship would appeal to the defender, and there is also speculation that the opportunity to return to his native South Wales may benefit Swansea. Subscribe to our Swansea City newsletter here.
The departure of Wanderers manager Matt Bloomfield, who just joined Championship rivals Luton Town, may possibly factor into the player’s decision, given the two had a tight relationship.
Wycombe have already bought two centre-backs in this transfer window, Anders Hagelskjaer and Sonny Bradley, but they have also lost Caleb Taylor. If they propose another choice, it may soften their stance.
Swansea were already looking for a centre-back before the market opened, but with injury concerns over Harry Darling and Ben Cabango, as well as the departure of loanee Nelson Abbey, the need to fortify has increased in recent weeks.
The club is also still looking for a winger this month, however insiders have downplayed links to Blackburn Rovers player Tyrhys Dolan.
Other reports stated that the Swans had identified the 23-year-old as a potential target this winter, with Dolan entering the final six months of his current contract.
While it appears to be a move that would tick a lot of boxes for the Swans, he is not considered a real target at this time. Indeed, as things stand, it appears that the winger will finish the season at Ewood Park before reassessing his future in the summer.
Meanwhile, the club is hungry to improve its alternatives in the middle of the park.
Other rumours have linked Barnsley’s Adam Philips and Saudi midfielder Abdulmalik Al-Jaber, while former loanee Luke Cundle remains a target.
It is known that the club made contact with Wolverhampton Wanderers last week to discuss a possible move for Cundle, but talks do not appear to have proceeded further at this time.
A number of Championship clubs are also keeping an eye on Cundle, with Millwall and Bristol City being among the most recent to express an interest, with both a loan and a permanent move still appearing to be options.
