Breaking: Defender flying in for Hearts medical this weekend – Agreement in place

According to Swedish media sources, IFK Värnamo defender is close to signing with Hearts.

The Austrian has been linked with the Scottish Premiership club during the transfer season, as they try to strengthen their squad this month.

Expressen reported today on the latest steps in Hearts’ pursuit of Michael Steinwender, stating that the 24-year-old will travel in this weekend for a physical with the club.

An agreement is reportedly in place pending his medical, and if all goes well, he will be officially revealed as a Hearts player in the following days.

Hearts have also been connected with Steinwender’s teammate Johnbosco Kalu, with reports claiming the Edinburgh club is considering signing the £400k-rated centre forward.

The Jambos should expect competition from Beitar Jerusalem, with reports suggesting the Israeli club has already made an offer for the 27-year-old.

Steinwender made sixteen starts in the recently finished Allsvenskan season and is signed with IFK Värnamo until December 2026.
