Rotherham United set to swoop for 30-year-old striker whose contract runs out this summer

Rotherham United are interested in signing St Mirren striker, according to Not The Old Firm.

Rotherham United are hoping to lure the attacker back to England this winter. RUFC has the opportunity to bolster their roster before the end of the January transfer window.

Mandron, 30, has made 24 appearances in all competitions for St Mirren this season, 20 of which have been in the Scottish Premiership, and has scored one goal. His contract with the Buddies expires this summer, and he will become a free agent as things are.

In the most recent update on his future in Paisley, Not The Old Firm reports that he has come on the Millers’ radar this month. It remains to be seen whether the Yorkshire club would confirm their interest with an official bid before the deadline.

Rotherham United target Mikael Mandron

Rotherham United could see Mandron as someone to add more competition and depth to their attacking ranks.

He would also inject some more experience into their squad as they look to rise up the table.

St Mirren signed him back in 2023, and he told their website at the time: “I’m feeling terrific. I’m quite pleased to be here.

“I understand what the league is about and how football is played here. I’ve really enjoyed life and football in Scotland, so that was a huge reason for me to join.

“I will contribute experience, and I am a trustworthy, hard-working player. I believe I will offer positive energy to the squad, and I hope to contribute goals and wins.”

Mandron scored 11 goals for St Mirren in his debut year, but has failed to find form this season.

Sunderland signed the Frenchman as a youth, and he played three times for the main team before going on loan to Fleetwood Town, Shrewsbury Town, and Hartlepool.

He left the Stadium of Light in 2015 and has subsequently had spells at Eastleigh, Wigan Athletic, Colchester United, Gillingham, Crewe Alexandra, and Motherwell.

What now?

Rotherham United are being connected as they look for additional players to supplement what they already have.

Last year, Steve Evans’ squad was demoted from the Championship, along with Birmingham City and Huddersfield Town.
