Bolton Wanderers are set to recruit League one star from League One rivals Peterborough United today, Football League World can exclusively confirm.
The Trotters are set to complete a mid-season invasion of the Weston Homes Stadium, with manager Ian Evatt looking to improve his team and propel Bolton into play-off contention.
Bolton are presently tenth in League One, four points behind sixth-placed Reading, but three teams stand in their way as the chase for the top six seems likely to intensify. They could, however, benefit from Randall’s impending deal.
Bolton Wanderers set to sign Peterborough United’s Joel Randall
According to Football League World, Bolton are finally set to sign the 25-year-old, after long admiring him. It is likely to be completed today after much speculation.
The Trotters were extensively connected with Randall in the summer, and Posh reportedly turned down a £1.5 million approach before the season began. But just last week, Football League World reported that Bolton had revived their interest in Randall, who was stated to be dissatisfied at Peterborough by manager Darren Ferguson in September.
Despite signing a new three-year contract in the summer that saw him become his team’s highest earner, Randall’s likely departure has been on the cards for some time.
More recently, Peterborough Today reported that Posh had accepted a proposal from Bolton for the midfielder. FLW can now affirm that the deal will go through today, with personal discussions clearly not an issue between the parties.
Joel Randall’s 24/25 season for Peterborough United
Randall has had a difficult season, having been part of a team that has fallen short of expectations while also failing to match his personal performance from the previous season.
The former Exeter City player had the best season of his career last time around, scoring 12 goals and assisting 12 times across all competitions as Posh advanced to the play-off semi-finals, but they are currently at the bottom of the table, and Randall has found it difficult at times.
The playmaker has five goals and two assists in eighteen League One games this season.
Normally a regular starter, he was demoted to the bench for Posh’s 2-2 draw at Burton Albion on New Year’s Day before missing the complete matchday squad in their 1-0 loss to Wrexham last weekend, adding to uncertainty about his immediate future at the club.
