Gillingham fans have welcomed the appointment of an experienced manager, giving them renewed optimism for success this season.
Mark Bonner’s dismissal comes halfway through the club’s League 2 season, and while the departing manager is widely respected by Gillingham fans, new ideas and a fresh approach are also welcome.
We asked some of the club’s most devoted fans how they felt about a tumultuous weekend at Gillingham, where one manager was soon removed by another.
“It’s disappointing when a manager leaves the club,” remarked David Garth, a Gillingham FC Supporters Club member.
“But it was unavoidable after a terrible sequence of games that saw Gillingham earn only 11 points out of a possible 45.
“There looked to be a growing divide between players, supporters, and management, thus the choice was correct.
“I am glad that the club has responded fast to welcome John Coleman, who has extensive experience in the lower divisions.
