FA Hits Norwich City Star with Charge After Controversial Spitting Allegation in Sunderland Loss

The Football Association has charged Norwich City winger for an alleged spitting incident during the defeat at Sunderland, according to PA.

Borja Sainz leads the Sky Bet Championship in goals with 15, but he hasn’t scored for the Canaries in seven outings. Norwich were defeated 2-1 at the Stadium of Light on December 21, during which the 23-year-old Spaniard is accused of spitting at a Sunderland player.

The FA issued the following statement: “Borja Sainz of Norwich City has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E1.1 following their EFL Championship match against Sunderland on Saturday, December 21, 2024.”

“It is alleged that the forward committed the sending off offence of spitting at an opponent during the 74th minute. “Borja Sainz has until Tuesday January 7 2025, to deliver a response.”

Norwich City captain Kenny McLean received a retrospective four-match ban in December for violent conduct during a 3-0 loss to QPR.

Meanwhile, Canaries head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup has strengthened his team by signing winger Lewis Dobbin on loan from Aston Villa for the duration of the season.
