Hearts are making early moves in the transfer market as they want to significantly improve their fortunes.
The Jambos are 11th in the Premiership, and manager Neil Critchley is under intense fire following some recent poor performances.
On top of the supporters, analyst Michael Stewart believes Hearts should fire their manager.
What could help the manager is if they can improve their team in the transfer market, which will lead to some progress on the pitch.
The January transfer window opened at midnight, and the Jambos urgently need to conduct business.
Union Saint-Gilloise striker Elton Kabangu is high on Hearts’ priority list, and his transfer might be completed as soon as today, allowing him to join the team for tomorrow’s match against Motherwell.
They won’t stop there, either, because the Tynecastle lads also need to strengthen their defence.
Hearts ‘target’ Jamie McCart
Frankie Kent and Stephen Kingsley’s long-term ailments have left Hearts short at centre-back. Craig Halkett has only recently returned to fitness, while Kye Rowles is linked with a move away.
Critchley is thought to be trying to sign two central defenders throughout the window.
Jamie McCart, a former St Johnstone player, has been identified as a potential target.
McCart has since played in the English Championship, League One, and League Two, with loan spells at Leyton Orient and Barnsley.
The 27-year-old joined Rotherham from Southampton after winning the historic cup double in Perth.
He began the season as a regular back for Steve Evans’ side after being given a second shot, but has yet to force his way back in following an injury.
According to the Scottish Sun, Hearts are deciding whether to try to sign him in January or wait and see if they can get him on a pre-contract.
That is because Rotherham have an option on his contract, which will expire in the summer if not exercised.
Other Hearts transfer links
Danny Armstrong, a Kilmarnock winger, has also been suggested as a potential Hearts target.
He is another player they have apparently explored for a pre-contract, as his current contract is expiring.
Killie manager Derek McInnes has confessed he is resigned to losing Armstrong and has directly addressed the Hearts link.
He answered, “I heard that a few weeks ago.” “That was something someone told me privately,” McInnes revealed.
“I communicate with Danny’s agency and Danny on a regular basis, so I believe I would be aware of any communication.
“Certainly, if Hearts want to walk through the door and inform us of their plan to speak with Danny, that’s fine, but they haven’t. I’m quite easygoing about it. “I am fine with it.”
