Leeds United striker has been linked with a surprise move to League One team Wrexham, as well as Italian side Genoa.
The January transfer window looms for Championship clubs, and there is plenty of conjecture about who the top sides are planning to sign in order to secure promotion.
Leeds manager Daniel Farke expects a very quiet window for both incomings and outgoings, but the crowd will disagree.
Patrick Bamford linked with Wrexham transfer
According to TEAMtalk, Leeds forward Patrick Bamford is now on the radar of League One club Wrexham ahead of the January transfer window, with the backing of famed owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
The 31-year-old has battled for playing time this season due to a variety of causes, including chronic fitness issues and a shifting pecking order that no longer sees Bamford as a consistent first option.
Bamford is thought to have spoken with Farke to complain his lack of playing time and is already exploring his options for the new year.
Genoa, the home of former Leeds striker Caleb Ekuban, has also been linked with the move, as has fellow Englishman Brooke Norton-Cuffy, who joined permanently from Arsenal in the summer.
Both Wrexham and Genoa may encounter difficulties in their pursuit of Bamford, as his alleged £40,000-per-week salaries would be a huge barrier to overcome, particularly for a club in the third division.
Leeds ought to consider Bamford exit, but replacing him is vital
The fact of the issue is that Bamford will no longer be first choice at Leeds, and if he wants to change that in the latter stages of his career, a move seems appropriate.
I doubt Farke would allow him to go in the middle of a promotion race, but it isn’t working for him here right now, and leaving the door open for a worthy successor should be considered.
Bamford only needs to look at Luke Ayling’s comeback at Middlesbrough to realise how a transfer away from Leeds may relaunch his career.
