Rotherham United hosts Northampton Town at the New York Stadium for the first time in over seven years.
The last time the two met on Rotherham’s turf was in a League One encounter, which was won by the hosts thanks to Kieffer Moore’s solitary goal of the game at the 52nd minute.
The previous game featured four goals, three of which were scored by the Millers. Three minutes before halftime, Ben Harding took down Mark Bradley in the area, and Daniel Nardiello converted the resultant penalty. On 75 minutes, Ben Pringle increased the score, and four minutes later, David Noble made it three-nil for the hosts. Clarke Carlisle scored a late consolation goal for the visitors.
The two last played at Millmoor in September 2006, with David Hibbert putting the home side ahead after seven minutes. But in the second half, Scott McGleish scored twice to give the Cobblers an away victory.
On a Tuesday night in April 2010, the Millers defeated Northampton at their ‘home’ ground, Don Valley. The Millers won thanks to an Adam Le Fondre penalty in the 65th minute, but it was the three red cards that grabbed headlines. Craig Hinton upended Le Fondre to give away the penalty kick and was sent out by Referee Eddie Evans. Twelve minutes later, the Millers’ Danny Harrison was deemed to have gone in too hard on Luke Guttridge and was sent off, with Guttridge likewise seeing red in the ensuing fight.
The two first played at Millmoor on Boxing Day 1963, and the Millers won thanks to an own goal.
