Mat Sadler has stated that Walsall midfielder might recover from a fractured cheekbone in “two to three weeks”.
The Walsall manager has ruled out the Montserrat international for four to six weeks following an operation on the injury he sustained in the FA Cup defeat against Charlton Athletic last month.
But Sadler has since released another update, saying that Brandon Comley may return sooner, albeit he will need to wear a protective mask.
Meanwhile, Jamie Jellis is “close” to returning from a calf injury that has kept him out of the last three games, and he will be hoping to be fit for Saturday’s encounter against Barrow.
Sadler stated, “Fingers crossed, we’ll be talking with Brandon in two to three weeks.” Although the damage is not unique, he may benefit from wearing a protective mask, which we will need to arrange for. That takes time to sort out; it doesn’t happen immediately. We’ll see with Jamie; I’d like to believe he’ll be available for selection on Saturday, but I don’t want to push him on it.
“Jamie is the type of kid who would’ve carried on playing with the injury so sometimes I have to not listen when he tells me he’s alright but he’s very close.”
Walsall made eight changes as they advanced to the EFL Trophy round of 16 against Reading via penalties, and Sadler was pleased to keep his players fresh ahead of the festive season.
He went on to say, “We must always ensure that we do the right thing for everyone. There are numerous games in the EFL Trophy, including a recent addition.By the end of the year, I’m confident we’ll have played about 60 games, and everyone will have played a lot of football.”
