PHIL PARKINSON described Wrexham’s 1-0 win over Lincoln City at The Racecourse as a “special” victory that kept them in the League One lead.
Tendayi Darikwa, an Imps defender, turned James McClean’s attempt into his own net in the 67th minute, giving the Reds a narrow victory.
Wrexham performed much better in Saturday’s 3-0 home win over Exeter City, but Parkinson saw it as a battling display against play-off contenders Lincoln and another vital result.
“When you win 1-0, so many qualities have to be on display,” said Parkinson, whose team is still second in the table, four points behind leaders Wycombe Wanderers.
“So many times in the game are significant for us. Callum Burton’s stop in the first half and Lewis Brunt’s goal-line clearance were crucial for us.
“I am obviously proud of every win we have but this just felt a bit special with backing up Saturday’s performance.”We had victories like this in the National League when the conditions were poor and we had to scrap and fight.
“There was some fantastic football on display from both teams.
“The resilience we’ve tried to instill in the guys and the club since we’ve been here, which comes from the very top – the owners – was on full display here.
“We told the guys at halftime that this game would be about the team that is willing to go the additional mile to make a tackle, a block, or score a goal, and I believe we demonstrated that.
“I could see the lads had an understanding that it was going to be a tough second period and we had to be the team which drove the extra bit – like George Dobson’s run for the goal – to make sure we got the three points.”
