A driver is in custody after allegedly driving the wrong way down a Valley freeway hours before the typical early morning commute.
According to Department of Public Safety officials, the wrong-way driver was reported on Interstate 17 near Glendale Avenue shortly before 2 a.m. The driver was apparently traveling southward in the northbound lanes.
Traffic cameras captured the driver going the wrong direction as many cars passed by. Troopers eventually apprehended the suspect near Bethany Home Road.
One lane was momentarily closed on Glendale Avenue but has since reopened.
The suspect’s name has not been disclosed.
