Regret may be creeping in as player stars at Wolves – From ‘ostracism’ to ‘revelation’ at Molineux

We’ve all done things we regret, and Atlético Madrid’s may be selling Matheus Cunha to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

That’s according to AS, who covered the player today and how he went from ‘ostracism’ at Atlético to becoming a’revelation’ in the Premier League at Wolves.

They look at the forward today after he continued his good form over the weekend, bringing his total to four goals and three assists in his previous four Wolves outings. He is their star, despite only starting 11 games for Atlético.

Cunha is displaying a ‘protagonist version’ of himself that was rarely seen in Spain, and he is now Wolves’ third highest goalscorer in the Premier League history, with 22 goals.
Atlético were always aware of his talent and paid €30 million for him in 2021, but they were willing to sell to Wolves when they approached. They received €50 million from that, which was a ‘major investment’ but has now left them feeling unhappy because they felt the forward still had ‘a lot of future ahead of him’.

That regret is building as they watch Cunha scoring as many goals as Cole Palmer this season and being one of the Premier League’s top performers.

They even suggest that a significant move may be on the horizon soon, with Cunha’s name rising and his performances surely being noted.

That is something the Wolves will be aware of, but for the time being, they are content with their star player, while Atlético yearns for what could have been.
