Gillingham custodian Jake Turner feels that the players are feeling the same anguish.
The Gills were booed off on Saturday following another dismal performance, losing 2-1 despite taking the lead, as the team’s inability to maintain an advantage this season continues.
Turner, the custodian, could not do much with the goals conceded, but he confronted the media on Saturday following the defeat.
“Everyone’s frustrated,” remarked the 25-year-old custodian. “Obviously, it hurts the fans greatly, but it also hurts the players and the staff.
“We simply have to find something within ourselves to bring in the wins and attempt to string them together.
“We certainly have to finish the game (after taking the lead). If we can’t win, we should at least avoid losing.
“It has definitely occurred too many times this year, so we just have to learn from it, remain together, and attempt to string together another win streak.
“We pushed so hard to get to the front, and we did so through Tim Dieng.
“It was never going to be a nice game given the (rain and windy) conditions. We gained an edge, but the final 30 minutes fell short. We probably dropped off a little too deep and kind of allowed them to put a bit of pressure on.
“We are all aware that this has occurred much too frequently.
“We’ve got to try and put an end to that and try and hold onto the 1-0s or try and put teams to bed and try and score a few more.
“We just need to stay higher up the pitch, slow the game down, or hurry it up at times. We’ll obviously pursue another goal, but this one was frustrating.”
The Gills have another respite before facing Bromley away on Wednesday (December 4).
Turner stated, “At the very least, we now have a lot of time to fix on areas that did not go as well.
“I’m confident we’ll work hard on the training ground and be ready for the next one.
“Everyone with the badge is frustrated. We just need to stick together and try to find it within ourselves to achieve the results.”
