Underperforming Hammers: Time for West Ham Players to Take Responsibility

West Ham’s players must accept responsibility for their bad start rather than blaming Julen Lopetegui.

Julen Lopetegui is already under intense pressure at West Ham following a disastrous start to the Premier League season.

Unfortunately, succeeding David Moyes was always going to be difficult, but the Spaniard has struggled to impose a consistent style of play while also failing to get the most out of his players.

However, journalist Kathryn Batte argues that the men on the pitch must bear equal responsibility for their performance. “Some of the squad members appear to be playing within themselves. Lucas Paqueta is one,” she stated.

“Jarrod Bowen, who was left out of his second consecutive England team last week, has been the club’s best attacking player this season. But even he appeared out of sorts on Saturday, possibly weighed down by the performances of those around him.”
“Jean-Clair Todibo, meanwhile, is yet to show why West Ham fought off competition from several top clubs to sign him in the summer.”

While these are only a few instances, practically every player should step up. If they don’t, West Ham could be in for a disastrous season.
