Although the great midfielder was named man of the match following the 1-0 victory over Oxford, there were several more standout performances from those in yellow.
The Georgian dominated the second half, like he has against so many teams this season, and walked straight into the Sky Sports spotlight.
“He’s an outstanding player and if he adds goals to his game he doesn’t have a ceiling,” commented Cleverley.
“His game intelligence and what pockets to pick up, and then the way he receives and travels with the ball is something I’ve not seen before.”
Kwadwo Baah, on the other hand, received the assist for the winning goal, as his ability to get past opponents once again opened up the defenders.
“It’s a big part of his game and he’s dangerous against anyone in a one v one situation,” according to Cleverley.
“Again, he was on a limited load, so we couldn’t play him for the entire 90 minutes, even though I thought it was a game for him.
“We just have to get him through this moment, and the international break is excellent timing for him.
“But Rocco came on and impacted the game really well and I was pleased with his introduction.”
Imran Louza made his fifth appearance and second start of the season, recapturing the form he showed at the start of the previous season.
“Imran seems to have never been away, and I’m happy for him.
“I understand how it feels to be on the periphery of a good group.
“Now he can really feel a part of things, and I thought he was fantastic.
“He dominated the game for us and was inch-perfect in possession.
“He certainly can feel he was a huge part of why we won the game.”
Festy Ebosele, a defender, went off late in the second half, and the head coach needs more time to determine the extent of the damage, though early signals were encouraging.
“I haven’t really had a chance to assess it,” Cleverley explained.
“I saw him having treatment, and it didn’t look too bad, but I’ll have to find out more.
“It was something with his shin, but I’ll have to go and assess that.”
