Just In: Phil Parkinson Reveals Why He Resisted Subbing Paul Mullin in Wrexham’s Stalemate

Wrexham’s home winning streak has come to an end following a dismal 0-0 stalemate with Huddersfield Town on Tuesday night.

Wrexham were on a high after defeating Rotherham United 1-0 on the road over the weekend.
Despite Phil Parkinson’s best efforts, the Yorkshire double-header at STōK Cae Ras did not result in two wins.

Wrexham never really connected in the last third, so a 0-0 tie was probably a fair outcome in the end.

Four points from these two games against Rotherham United and Huddersfield Town is still a good return for Wrexham.

Both sides were demoted from the Championship last season, and Wrexham have performed admirably against both.

Phil Parkinson on Paul Mullin

Wrexham struggled to find the big moment in the final third, with Man of the Match Ryan Barnett getting the only chance on target.
Paul Mullin was desperate to score against Huddersfield after being released by the Terriers 10 years ago.
Mullin was on a high after scoring the winning goal against Rotherham on Saturday, and Jack Marriott’s injury meant he started again on Tuesday night.

Mullin had two efforts against Huddersfield, but neither were on target, as Wrexham failed to find a breakthrough.

Parkinson, Wrexham’s manager, has now spoken on Mullin’s performance during Match Day Live on the club’s official YouTube site.

Parkinson stated that Mullin is ‘in a good place’ and applauded his hard ethic against Huddersfield.

Parkinson added that he was tempted to take Mullin off, but decided to keep him on in the hopes of a magical moment later in the day.

“He’s in a good place and I thought he put a real good shift in again tonight,” according to Parkinson.

“I was tempted to take him off with 10 minutes left, but you never know when an opportunity may arrive for him, and that header almost won us the game.

“I think he put up a terrific display of honesty for us tonight,” he added.

Mullin must carry the load in Wrexham attack

Mullin has been the standout player in Wrexham’s assault since his arrival in 2021.

Mullin, who had previously scored goals for fun in the National League and League Two, was about to take a significant step up to League One.

Saturday’s goal at Rotherham was his first league strike of the season, although the slow start is acceptable given Mullin’s summer surgery.

According to Parkinson, Mullin is now ‘back to his best’ in training and will need to carry the goalscoring burden.

Marriott faces a four-month absence, while experienced striker Steven Fletcher is also expected to miss time.

Modou Faal is an attacking option, but he is still very raw, thus Mullin and Ollie Palmer will be relied on for goals as Parkinson’s injury-prone striker for the foreseeable future.
