The Detroit Lions have emerged as one of the NFL’s top destinations for good players who want to win, putting them in a good position to locate a suitable replacement for injured defensive end Aidan Hutchinson. However, when it comes to the November 5 trade deadline and all of the trades that can/might occur before then, players across the league do not have the same level of agency as they do during the summer. As a result, a player like Las Vegas Raiders great edge rusher Maxx Crosby, a Michigan native, cannot opt to change uniforms and join a team like the Lions. However, Detroit can phone Las Vegas and make a massive pitch to try and cash in on a championship window that is plainly open now.
“Also, is it worth calling the Raiders about Maxx Crosby, given Las Vegas’ 2-4 start?” Fowler wrote. “I highly doubt Las Vegas would part with him, but it’s worth asking.” Detroit can always ask, but if the Lions want the Raiders to listen, that ask should come with a strong offer that signals to Las Vegas that the Lions are serious about making a trade. He’s made the Pro Bowl in each of the last three seasons, receiving Second-Team All-Pro honours in 2021 and 2023. Over his six-year NFL career, Crosby, 27, has 97 tackles for loss and 57.5 sacks in 88 games, 82 of which he has started.
Crosby is presently tied for the league lead in tackles for loss (9), a category in which he has led the NFL in each of the previous two seasons, and has 5.5 sacks despite missing one game due to injury.
