Liverpool’s injury crisis is finally showing signs of easing, with Jurgen Klopp confirming Diogo Jota will return to training later this week.
The Reds’ start to the season was undermined by fitness issues, with as many as 10 senior players missing in their first four games, while Darwin Nunez is serving a three-game ban for a header from Joachim Andersen. Liverpool prepare for Newcastle United at Anfield on Wednesday night and Klopp had some much-needed good news to share in his pre-match press conference.

“I think Diogo [Jota] can train from Thursday,” he said on Tuesday. “Thiago [Alcantara] I think, a little later. We’ll see. Calvin [Ramsay] is getting closer. I saw Caoimhin Kelleher going to train outside. So there is definitely light at the end of the tunnel.

Eddie Howe and Jurgen Klopp will take on their army of men who will go head-to-head in a thrilling setup at Anfield. Liverpool

Jota has been missing for some time after suffering a hamstring injury on international duty before suffering another setback when he returned to pre-season training. Thiago started the season in perfect form but hasn’t played since the 2-2 draw with Fulham on the opening day of the campaign. Both were missed.
Nunez’s goal in the 1-1 draw with Palace saw him knocked out in the 2-1 loss to Manchester United and the 9-0 win over Bournemouth. The Uruguay striker will miss the Newcastle game before he can return for the Merseyside derby on Saturday, but Liverpool’s depth has been tested due to a lack of discipline.

Roberto Firmino missed the Palace game but returned to score twice and to assist three goals in the Bournemouth serve. Jota’s recovery will add competition for the top three places alongside Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz.

Even deeper problems in midfield, where Klopp had recently been without Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Curtis Jones and Thiago. Jones returned to first-team training with Joel Matip and Ramsay on Monday to allay these concerns, but they are still strong enough for Liverpool to consider a new signing in the later stages of the transfer window.

Klopp gave an honest assessment of Liverpool’s chances of signing a new midfielder before the 11pm deadline on Thursday. Asked if Liverpool are still in the market, he said: “Yes. But the closer we get to the last minute the less likely that becomes. We haven’t been out. I couldn’t [give names ] if I wanted to. “It’s really difficult because there are definitely a few players who would be the right ones, but there are different issues. We’ll see, there’s still time but when it’s over I’ll be really happy that we can stop thinking about it. and focus on the team we have.”
