Report: Sir Alex Ferguson personally requested that Kevin Trapp be acquired by Manchester United.

Sir Alex Ferguson has interfered in Manchester United’s transfer deals, German broadcaster Sport1 report.

The legendary Manchester United manager is believed to be behind United’s pursuit of Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp.

Sporting Report Trapp is ‘among the names being considered’ as United search for a new goalkeeper to replace David de Gea.

Trapp, 32, won the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt last season and is a Germany international.

Sport1 report Sir Alex Ferguson has shared a recommendation he received for Manchester United to watch Trapp.

The broadcaster claims: “Ferguson was encouraged by his contacts in Germany over the summer to take a closer look at Eintracht Frankfurt’s Kevin Trapp.

“And what the ‘Mister’ saw was quite convincing…if Ferguson believes in the quality of a player, he will help with a transfer. He then tries to free up the necessary funds from the Glazer family.

Erik ten Hag should also be interested in making a move. The new boss has pushed United’s transfer policy so far this transfer window. BILD reports that Ten Hag is entirely behind the move.

Trapp was asked about the rumors earlier this week. He was quoted by The Sun: “It’s always nice when rumors like this come up. It’s a nice recognition. But I can’t say anything about it.”

He will probably be even more flattered to learn that Sir Alex Ferguson was involved in the hunt for his signature. BILD reports that Eintracht Frankfurt wants £ 21 million for Trapp and wants a deal closed soon or no deal so they have time to sign a replacement.

Sky says United have made an approach for Newcastle’s Martin Dubravka, perhaps discouraged by the asking price for Trapp.‌
