Ex-Lion Cameron Sutton turns himself in amid claims of domestic abuse after dodging authorities for weeks.

Former Lions corner Cameron Sutton turned himself into authorities Sunday after weeks of avoiding law enforcement, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office announced.

Sutton is facing serious charges, which include a charge of domestic battery by strangulation, which is a third-degree felony and carries a penalty of up to five years in prison, ESPN reported.

The sheriff’s office released a brief clip of Sutton surrendering to authorities at the Orient Road Jail wearing a white long-sleeve shirt and mustard-colored shorts.

Sutton arrived at the jail to surrender at 8:24 p.m., according to a news release by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, nearly a week after his attorney had notified police that he would turn himself in.

Sheriff Chad Chronister released a statement, saying, “This man has finally made the right choice to turn himself in after weeks of avoiding law enforcement.”

“No one in Hillsborough County is above the law, and domestic violence has no place in our community.” As she recovers from this man’s horrific acts, my thoughts are with this woman.

At the NFL owners meeting, team president Rod Wood told Fox 2 that Sutton had been at the Lions facility when the organization learned of the warrant and had recommended him to turn himself in.

When the front office got together later that day and decided to release him, they had advised that he “do the right thing.”

The outlet further revealed that a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman stated that there appeared to be signs of wounds on the corpse of the claimed victim.

After spending six seasons with the Steelers, Sutton signed a three-year, $33 million contract with the Lions prior to the 2023 season.

Throughout the 2023–24 regular season, Sutton recorded 65 combined tackles and one interception.
