Huddersfield Town have appointed Michael Duff as their new manager as they prepare for life in League One.
Huddersfield Town, along with Rotherham United and Birmingham City, have been relegated from the Championship and will seek quick promotion. They parted ways with German manager Andre Breitenreiter and have rapidly replaced him as they prepare for next season.

Duff, 46, played for Burnley and Cheltenham Town before commencing his coaching career with the latter. He has since managed Barnsley and, most recently, Swansea City, and he will be looking forward to his new job at the John Smith’s Stadium.

He led the Tykes to the third-tier play-off final last year, but they were defeated at Wembley by Sheffield Wednesday. Here are three players he should try to attract away from Oakwell this summer to strengthen his newly acquired squad…

Devante Cole

He is out of contract at the end of next month and has yet to sign an extension, so he is set to become a free agent as things stand. The striker is a seasoned third-tier goal scorer, having scored 34 goals in the previous two seasons.

Huddersfield Town should consider signing the Manchester City youth graduate on a free transfer. Duff managed to bring out the best in him during his prior year in South Yorkshire.

Herbie Kane

The midfielder faces an uncertain future with the Tykes, as his contract expires in a couple of weeks. He has been linked with Championship newcomers Derby County following their promotion under former Rotherham United manager Paul Warne, according to Patreon reporter Alan Nixon.

Kane, 25, joined his current team in 2020 from Liverpool after loan spells at Doncaster Rovers and Hull City. He has subsequently made 123 appearances in all competitions, scoring 14 goals, ten of which came in the previous season.

Jordan Williams

Last but not least, defender Williams is expected to become available this summer if nothing changes with his circumstances. The full-back has been a steady performer for Barnsley in recent years and is a guy Duff knows well.

He progressed through the Huddersfield Town academy and made one first-team appearance before leaving in 2018. The former England youth international is already familiar with the Terriers and would be an astute signing.
