Liverpool could inflict second damage on Chelsea with a £50 million star on their radar after Mason Mount

Liverpool could make Chelsea suffer twice this summer by signing Mason Mount and Romeo Lavia.

Liverpool could double their damage against Chelsea in the summer transfer window by signing one of their midfield targets and buying Mason Mount. The Reds are believed to be among the top suitors for Mount, although rivals

New Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino would prefer to keep Mount, but there has been no progress in contract negotiations between the club and player representatives since the reopening. It looks more likely the 24-year-old midfielder will leave Stamford Bridge than stay. And the Blues have started selecting targets as Pochettino reworks the squad this summer, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Conor Gallagher other midfielders likely to leave. West Ham captain Declan Rice is a long-term target, while Southampton’s Romeo Lavia is another target.

The Saints were recently relegated from the Premier League, despite retaining Belgian Lavia, who Chelsea have been looking to sign for £50m this summer. The 19-year-old defensive midfielder had just signed from Manchester City two months earlier for £14m.

City have a buyout clause worth £40m, with the idea that Southampton could sell before their return to the Championship this summer for an even higher fee. According to Goal, Liverpool are among the clubs that are particularly interested in the player and have been monitoring his progress.

The Reds are currently mainly working on deals for Alexis Mac Allister and Mount, but it is claimed that Anfield’s recruitment department believe Lavia could be the difference maker under Jurgen Klopp. Signing Liverpool would be another setback for Chelsea as Mount is also likely to leave and Rice appears to be linked with Arsenal.

Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana is another target, while Sporting’s Manuel Ugarte and Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Manu Kone are also in their sights. But Lavia – still a teenager – is the youngest of all and the Belgian international has a very high cap. The fact that Chelsea were willing to make such a big offer to him 12 months ago shows how much they appreciate him. And Liverpool could add to the pain by signing Mount and then also buying Lavia from Southampton to alter their midfield selection.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has given his approval for Mount’s potential signing. Speaking to The Anfield Wrap, he said: “Mason Mount is funny in that people always seem a bit unkind to him for whatever reason. I’ve never had it, I’m a huge fan. He is the winner of the Champions League.

“I really like him. He has the energy to push. He would create a bigger scoring threat in midfield than we could have from Jordan [Henderson] in that position right now. Mount is working hard. Every top manager who has worked at Chelsea has chosen him.

“He plays for England and I think the club also need to think about the English home situation. [James] Milner is going forward, [Alex] Oxlade-Chamberlain, Joe Gomez doesn’t play every week and will try to move on point, Jordan is getting older.

“This should be in the back of their mind. If we bought Mac Allister and Mason Mount, I would be very happy. I really want us to sign a defensive midfielder as well.

Liverpool approach for Kylian Mbappe confirmed with PSG star ‘set to reject contract extension’

Liverpool made enquiries for Kylian Mbappe last summer, it has been claimed.

Last night, L’Equipe claimed that Paris Saint-Germain star Mbappe does not intend to trigger the one-year extension clause in the bumper contract he signed a year ago.

The Paris-born star had reportedly signed a three-year contract before the 2022-23 campaign, but according to the outlet it was in fact, a two-year deal with the option of an extra season.

Mbappe reportedly does not want to take up the option of an extra season at PSG and in turn, will enter the final 12 months of his deal at the end of the current campaign.

PSG will again be in the position of deciding whether to try to extend Mbappe’s contract or sell him to avoid losing the star for free next summer.

PSG were in the same predicament back in 2021, when Real Madrid submitted a huge bid of £154million for the Ligue 1 top scorer, which was subsequently rejected.

However, Los Blancos may look to land the Frenchman for free next summer as the 24-year-old looks to run down his contract at the Parc des Princes.

Liverpool made enquiries for Mbappe

Another club that may be interested in signing Mbappe is Liverpool.

L’Equipe have alleged that Jurgen Klopp’s side explored the possibility of signing the France captain at the start of the season.

However, the outlet added that the Reds would have struggled to get a deal over the line considering Mbappe’s enormous monthly €6million (£5.2million) wages.

That wage is five times what Mohamed Salah earns after signing a new contract of his own last summer.

The Merseyside club have been long-term admirers of the 24-year-old.

Before he moved from Monaco to PSG in 2017, Mbappe had held talks with Liverpool – his mother’s favourite team.

“We talked a little bit, but not too much,” Mbappe said in an interview with the Daily Telegraph. “I talked to Liverpool because it’s the favourite club of my mum, my mum loves Liverpool. I don’t know why, you will have to ask her.

“It’s a good club and we met them five years ago. When I was in Monaco I met them. It’s a big club. Of course, it was between Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain in the end.”

Liverpool’s rivals, Manchester United have also reportedly enquired about Mbappe in the past.

Kylian Mbappe was promised Robert Lewandowski and two other marquee signings during contract extension talks

Kylian Mbappe was promised that Paris Saint-Germain would sign both Robert Lewandowski and Bernardo Silva upon signing his new contract extension.

Mbappe’s deal at the Parc des Princes was due to expire in the summer and he looked set to join Real Madrid after months of speculation.

However, the World Cup winner performed a u-turn and ended up committing his future to PSG with a lucrative three-year contract that was announced in May.

It was rumoured that Mbappe’s new deal included special player perks and he was able to have a say in sporting matters.

According to journalist Romain Molina, Mbappe’s discussions centered around new recruits in the French capital.

He was told that the club, with recruitment headed up by Luis Campos, would move for Lewandowski after he wanted out at Bayern Munich.

However, he ended up joining Barcelona and has scored 14 goals in 12 games for the Blaugra

Meanwhile, Bernardo Silva stayed put at Manchester City despite a rift of rumours suggesting he wanted out.

Milan Skriniar of Inter Milan was also touted as a summer addition but he remained at the San Siro, meaning neither of the targets were secured.

Instead, PSG brought in Nuno Mendes, Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz, Carlos Soler, Renato Sanches, Nordi Mukiele and Hugo Ekitike.

Mbappe has scored 12 goals this season but stories about him being unhappy have been persistent.

It has been claimed his relationship with PSG is “completely broken” and he wishes to leave in January.

Real have once again been linked, while Chelsea and Liverpool are believed to be keen should there be the potential for a switch.

His ego has come into question, with Mbappe notably having a rift with Neymar over a penalty against Montpellier earlier this season.

Thierry Henry blasted Mbappe for his behaviour and not putting the team first after he was outspoken about his role under Christophe Galtier.

Recent reports claim the PSG dressing room has become divided, with many angry over the 23-year-old’s conduct.

Apparently an “isolated figure”, it’s said Mbappe’s only support comes from France internationals Presnel Kimpembe, Nordi Mukiele and Hugo Ekitike, as well as Achraf Hakimi.

PSG would ‘only sell Kylian Mbappe to Liverpool’ amid reports he wants to leave

Paris Saint-Germain would ‘only sell Kylian Mbappe to Liverpool’, according to stunning reports.

Mbappe reportedly wants to QUIT PSG in January as his relationship with the club is ‘completely broken’, according to bombshell reports in Spain.

Marca claims that the 23-year-old told PSG he wanted to leave last summer amid interest from Real Madrid.

He was subjected to a mammoth £154 million bid before signing a new contract at PSG.

However, they report that the French team will refuse the sale of the superstar forward to the Spanish giants.

But PSG would be open to discussing with Liverpool over the transfer of Mbappe.

It’s reported that Jurgen Klopp’s team is ‘one of his only feasible options’.

It’s not the first time Mbappe has been linked with a sensational move to Anfield.

The World Cup winner even confirmed he had talks with Liverpool.

“We talked a little bit, but not too much. We talked a little bit,” he revealed.

“I talked to Liverpool because it’s the favourite club of my mum, my mum loves Liverpool. I don’t know why, you will have to ask her!
“It’s a good club and we met them five years ago. When I was in Monaco I met them. It’s a big club.”

Klopp also had his on Liverpool’s supposed pursuit of Mbappe.

“Of course, we are interested in Kylian Mbappe, we are not blind!” He said in May.

“Actually, nothing to say about that. Between Kylian and Liverpool, it’s all set. It’s all fine.

“We of course like him, if we didn’t like him we’d have to question ourselves.

“But we are not, we cannot, be part of these battles.

“There must be other clubs involved but that’s fine. He’s still a great player.”

Kylian Mbappe ‘can walk out of his PSG contract in 2024’

Kylian Mbappe’s final year of his Paris Saint-Germain contract is at his discretion, new reports state.

The World Cup winner was heavily touted to join Real Madrid on a free transfer, with his contract in the French capital due to expire in the summer.

However, prior to a 5-0 thrashing of Metz in May, Mbappe came onto the Parc des Princes pitch and it was announced that he had signed a three-year deal.

The former Monaco man and president Nasser El-Khelaifi held up shirt which had ‘Mbappe 2025’ on the back, with Mbappe saying: “I am convinced that here I can continue to grow at a club that provides everything necessary to perform at the highest level”.

His lucrative contract includes £650,000-a-week but while the consensus was that Mbappe had penned a three-year deal, it is apparently not the case.

L’Equipe say that it is actually only a two-year deal for Mbappe. The third year, which would take him through to 2025, is entirely optional and means Mbappe can walk out if he so desires.

He will be in the final year of his deal when this season is done and dusted, which could put effectively put PSG back in the same situation.

There was talk that Mbappe was offered the chance to be in charge of the sporting project at PSG but he has denied that and insists he is just a player.

Though his attitude has been questioned at times, Mbappe has scored nine goals in seven games in all competitions for the Ligue One leaders.

Speculation has been rife about Mbappe’s relationship with teammate Neymar, who he clashed with over a penalty.

With the recent controversy. Mbappe addressed things prior to the 2-1 win over Juventus last week.

“To talk about Neymar, this is the sixth year, I think we’ve always had a relationship like this based on respect,” he said.

“But we’ve always had moments like this where sometimes we’ve had moments that were a bit colder and moments that were a bit hotter.

“There are times, you’ll see, when we’re the best of friends and sometimes we don’t talk so much, it’s the nature of our relationship that’s like that.”

Overall, Mbappe has 180 goals in 224 appearances for the Parisians since joining in 2017.

Fans spot Kylian Mbappe message on PSG manager Christophe Galtier’s notebook

Eagle-eyed fans have spotted a message relating to Kylian Mbappe on Paris Saint Germain manager Christophe Galtier’s notebook.

The French champions were in action against Benfica in the Champions League on Tuesday night. During the match, fans spotted a message on Galtier’s notebook that read: “Kylian pref (the right).”

This comes after a controversial Instagram story was posted by Mbappe after PSG’s 0-0 draw with Reims on Saturday.

Mbappe posted a picture of himself with the hashtag ‘pivot gang’. According to Get French Football News, that’s a reference to the France international not wanting to play up front alone.

A few hours before the game against Benfica kicked off, extraordinary reports claimed that Mbappe has asked to leave PSG in January as the relationship between the Frenchman and the club has collapsed.

According to French football expert Julien Laurens, Mbappe feels he has been betrayed by the Parc des Princes club.

He said on BBC Radio 5 Live: “He feels betrayed by the club in the sense that all the things the club promised him when he signed that new deal until 2025 have not happened.

“The promises they would sign a new striker so he could play in his best position off the striker, that Neymar wouldn’t be there and he would be sold, that they would sign a centre-back, and he would be at the centre of the project. All of these things have not happened.

“We knew there were tensions and now he has made his mind up and he doesn’t want to be there. He feels he made a mistake by extending his contract and he should have left in the summer, now he is looking at the January transfer window at where he could go.”

However, ahead of kick-off, PSG’s sporting director Luis Campos denied the rumours by saying Mbappe “never talked about leaving” the club in January.

He told Canal Plus: “I am with Kylian Mbappe every day. He has never talked to me about leaving in January.

“It’s not a statement from the player, it’s [from the press], and to have such information before a match like this is very serious. That’s why I’m here, to deny and say clearly that Kylian Mbappe has never spoken to me or to the president [Nasser Al-Khelaifi] to leave PSG in January.”

Campos added to RMC Sport: “Kylian is an extraordinary professional. For example, he played sick in the last match in Reims, he made the effort for the team. I see Kylian arriving with his teammates, happy every day and with a huge desire to work.”

Mbappe went on to score later in the evening from the penalty spot to give his side a 1-0 lead going into halftime. However, a second-

half penalty by Joao Mario rescued a point for Benfica.
