In the midst of $31 million transfer “talks,” Ryan Gravenberch has already given the ideal Liverpool audition.
In the 2020–21 season, Ryan Gravenberch demonstrated his talent in front of Jürgen Klopp, and that performance will demonstrate what he can bring to Liverpool.
In the forthcoming summer transfer window, midfielders will be Liverpool’s first focus, and it appears that Jürgen Klopp may already be very close to making his first midfield acquisition.
The Times reports that Liverpool is intensifying its chase of Ryan Gravenberch, a midfielder for Bayern Munich, and that a club official reportedly traveled to the Netherlands to speak with the player’s father, who guides the player’s career.
Gravenberch is undoubtedly a fascinating player who should pique Liverpool’s curiosity. He joined Bayern last summer, but so far, the Bundesliga champions haven’t quite taken to him.
FSG may have struck it rich once again because they have confirmed to Liverpool that their transfer agreement is worth $49 million.
Frank Lampard recently explained to Liverpool why a $49 million transfer could be the best way to bring in Jürgen Klopp.
Although he has played in 27 games this season, he has only had one start in the Bundesliga, and it is obvious that the lack of opportunity has caused his career to somewhat stagnate. However, he is also a player that Liverpool has been keeping an eye on for a while.
He has been on the club’s radar since the beginning of his Ajax career, so Liverpool’s chief scouts are familiar with him and are aware that a player who is still only 20 years old and has more than 100 games under his belt for Ajax has a lot of potential.
When Gravenberch put on two fantastic performances against the club in the Champions League as a just 18-year-old a few seasons back, Jürgen Klopp will have personally witnessed just what Gravenberch can offer this Liverpool team.
Even though Ajax lost that game against Liverpool in October 2020, Gravenberch made his Champions League debut that month and displayed maturity even at such a young age.
Gravenberch was extremely energetic and active, taking part in nine defensive duels and winning five of them, while also recording seven recoveries and four interceptions, according to Wyscout.
A few months later, in a match that Ajax lost but in which Gravenberch had another opportunity to shine, he gave an even stronger performance at Anfield.
At Anfield, Gravenberch demonstrated both his offensive and defensive skills, winning all of his defensive duels while making seven interceptions and seven recoveries.

Givemesport waxed lyrical about how the midfielder “shined” against Liverpool that evening, while The Boot Room gathered several tweets from Liverpool supporters complimenting the player as well, which should serve as a reminder of Gravenberch’s talent.
Gravenberch is a traditional box-to-box midfielder who is most effective when playing on the left side of midfield. He can also transform into a deep-lying controller in the middle of the park in the style of Georginio Wijnaldum and has even been likened to Paul Poga. He is press-resistant, full of energy, and has everything he needs in his locker to work with Klopp’s gegenpressing strategy.
He is also a no-brainer if he is offered for $31 million (£25 million/€28 million), as the aforementioned Times piece indicates. Although Gravenberch won’t be able to fix all of Liverpool’s issues, he will help Klopp’s midfield, and for that price, the Reds will find it difficult to find a player with more promise and appropriateness.
