In the midst of a Real Madrid transfer “U-turn,” Liverpool “make contact” to beat Chelsea to a £33 million signing.

For a £33 million midfielder, Liverpool has allegedly “contacted” Sporting Lisbon, while Real Madrid striker Marco Asensio has allegedly made a transfer “U-turn.”

Liverpool reaches out to potential signees

The midfielder Matheus Nunes of Sporting Lisbon has reportedly been the subject of contact from Liverpool, despite Jürgen Klopp’s repeated claims over the past few days that the Reds’ incoming business is complete.

According to the Portuguese publication Jornal de Noticias, Liverpool, Wolves, and Chelsea have all expressed interest in signing Nunes.

Sporting, however, is claimed to be in no urgent need of cash as they have already sold Joao Palhinha to Fulham for €20 million (£17 million) and as a result do not need to sell. Although Nunes’ release clause is for €60 million (£50 million), they would allegedly work out a deal for €40 million (£33 million)

Perhaps one for next summer, but not now. And the pricing themselves appear to be quite inconsistent. Why would you let him go for two-thirds of his release clause if you don’t need to sell? Something isn’t right here.
